SIG announced that its first aseptic carton manufacturing plant in India has become fully operational, marking a significant expansion of its production footprint in the country. The facility, located in Ahmedabad, Gujarat, was completed in 20 months and began commercial production in December 2025, strengthening SIG’s ability to serve India’s dairy and non-carbonated beverage sectors.

According to a press release issued by SIG, the Ahmedabad plant will supply aseptic cartons to the company’s installed base of filling machines serving dairy and beverage producers in India. With operations ramped up, the plant is also expected to function as an export hub for neighbouring Asian markets, supporting regional supply chains and export-oriented manufacturing.

India is the world’s largest milk market and a major producer of juices, making it a key growth market for aseptic packaging solutions. SIG stated that local production will allow shorter delivery timelines and improved responsiveness to customer demand, particularly in categories where cold-chain infrastructure remains limited and shelf-stable packaging is widely used.

The company said the plant has the potential to create more than 300 direct jobs in Gujarat as production scales up, in addition to employment opportunities across ancillary services and supply chains. The Ahmedabad facility is the tenth aseptic carton packaging plant in SIG’s global manufacturing network.

“Bringing this facility into full operation is an important milestone for SIG and a strong reflection of our global strategy,” said Christoph Wegener, Chief Markets Officer at SIG. “This plant will strengthen our ability to serve a fast-growing region with packaging systems that combine speed, performance, and flexibility,” he said.

SIG entered the Indian market in 2018 and said it has recorded steady business growth since then. The company noted that the new plant provides greater flexibility to meet domestic demand while supporting export growth across Asia.

Abdelghany Eladib, President and General Manager, India, Middle East and Africa at SIG, said, “With this facility now running, we are able to support our customers with greater agility while creating employment and strengthening local value chains.” He added that the plant would contribute to meeting domestic demand as well as supporting regional dairy and beverage exports.

Vandana Tandan, Head of Market India and Bangladesh at SIG, said local manufacturing would enable closer proximity to customers and faster response times in a rapidly evolving market.

SIG said aseptic cartons play an important role in enabling the safe distribution of milk and beverages without refrigeration or preservatives, supporting large-scale food distribution in markets with limited cold-chain infrastructure.

SIG, founded in 1853 and headquartered in Neuhausen, Switzerland, is a provider of aseptic carton, bag-in-box, and spouted pouch packaging solutions for the food and beverage industry. The company operates in more than 100 countries and reported revenue of EUR 3.3 billion in 2024.
