Barnes Molding Solutions has inaugurated a new greenfield production facility in Pune, expanding its manufacturing presence in India and reinforcing its focus on the Asian injection molding market. The facility is located in the Chakan industrial corridor and is intended to strengthen local manufacturing and service capabilities for regional customers.

The Pune site spans more than 16,000 square metres and has been developed to support advanced manufacturing and service operations. Barnes Molding Solutions has so far committed about USD 30 million to the development of the Pune site, with cumulative investment expected to rise to approximately USD 50 million as capacity and capabilities are scaled up. The workforce is expected to expand steadily over the coming years, with total employment projected to reach up to 250 personnel.

The facility is designed to cater to customers across automotive, industrial manufacturing, electronics, packaging, and medical technology sectors, with an emphasis on reducing lead times and improving proximity to customers. The Pune facility currently houses teams spanning engineering, manufacturing operations, sales, customer service, and administrative functions, and works in close coordination with Barnes Molding Solutions’ operations in Europe, China, and the United States.

The company has indicated that future phases will focus on enhancing manufacturing depth, engineering expertise, and research and development activities in India, supporting its ambition to establish the country as a central base for injection molding technologies and export-driven production.

The facility operates under the Barnes Molding Solutions umbrella, which includes the brands Foboha, Männer, Synventive, Thermoplay, Priamus, and Gammaflux. The company stated that the investment aligns with its local-for-local strategy, enabling faster response to customer requirements in India while enhancing technical collaboration and after-sales support in the region.

At the time of inauguration, the Pune facility began offering integrated capabilities for the manufacture of hot runner systems for the Synventive and Thermoplay brands. These include engineering services, mould flow analysis, system assembly, after-sales service, and repair operations. The company said the localised setup is expected to increase operational flexibility and improve service support for processors across Asia.

India has been identified as a key market within the group’s long-term growth strategy, reflecting increasing demand for advanced polymer processing and injection molding technologies. “At Barnes Molding Solutions, we see India as a central pillar of our future manufacturing and technology roadmap. Establishing a local production base allows us to respond faster to customer needs and build stronger, long-term partnerships in the region,” said Eveline Geppert, Head of Global Marketing Communications, Barnes Molding Solutions.

Following the expansion, India is set to serve as the group’s main manufacturing and service centre for Asia outside China, providing greater operational agility while complementing Barnes Molding Solutions’ existing global manufacturing network.

The inauguration marked the start of a multi-day engagement programme involving employees, customers, partners, and senior members of the company’s global leadership team. The opening included internal events and customer interactions aimed at introducing the new facility and its capabilities.

Barnes Molding Solutions is headquartered in Bristol, Connecticut, and brings together a portfolio of brands specialising in tooling, hot runner, and control systems for industrial plastic injection molding. The group supports customers in automotive, medical and pharmaceutical, packaging, and electronics industries with application-focused technologies and system solutions.
