Copeland has completed the first phase of its INR 5 billion investment at its Atit manufacturing facility near Pune in Maharashtra, India, expanding its domestic production capabilities for scroll hermetic compressors. The expansion marks the start of local manufacturing of scroll compressors at the site and is intended to strengthen supply chain localisation and manufacturing depth in India.
The first phase of the expansion includes the localisation of scroll hermetic compressor manufacturing at the Atit facility. The company confirmed that the inaugural batch of 5 horsepower scroll compressors manufactured in India has been successfully delivered, indicating the operational completion of Phase One.
The Atit facility supports Copeland’s operations in India’s heating, ventilation, air conditioning and refrigeration (HVACR) market, which is projected to reach USD 45.4 billion by 2033, as stated in the release. The plant serves transport-related applications including railways, metro systems and electric bus platforms, and manufactures compressors, condensing units and heat pumps for domestic use and exports.
The company stated that the facility contributes to reducing import dependence by localising advanced technologies and supporting the adoption of low-global warming potential refrigerants. Over the past two years, more than 350 stock keeping units have been added across multiple product categories at the Atit site, expanding its manufacturing portfolio.
“India has become a cornerstone of Copeland’s global manufacturing strategy,” said Jagadish Keswani, president of India, Middle East and Africa at Copeland. “Our focus on localisation, sustainable refrigerant technology and advanced product platforms demonstrates our commitment to building a future-ready manufacturing ecosystem in India,” he said.
Copeland stated that the Atit facility is manufacturing compressors compatible with low-global warming potential refrigerants including R-32, R-290, R-454A and R-454B. The company added that its India manufacturing workforce consists entirely of local employees across production, engineering, supply chain and quality functions.
The first compressor manufactured at the expanded facility, model ZR61KCE-TFD-522, was dispatched to Amit Engineers on 3 December 2025. Copeland said it continues to invest in workforce training programmes to support future factory modernisation and product development initiatives. Copeland is headquartered in St. Louis, Missouri, United States.
