Cummins Inc. inaugurated its India Machining Centre of Excellence (COE) on 22 January 2026, marking a milestone in the company’s six-decade manufacturing presence in the country. The facility is designed to support both Indian operations and selected global markets, reinforcing India’s role within Cummins’ international manufacturing footprint.

The India Machining Centre of Excellence at Cummins’ Phaltan Megasite is designed to support high-precision machining and will manufacture critical components for a new generation of Cummins HELM engines for domestic and international markets. The facility reflects Cummins’ focus on safe, sustainable, and smart manufacturing, while strengthening its capability to serve global customers from India.

The Machining Centre of Excellence is located at Cummins’ Phaltan Megasite in the Satara district of Maharashtra, strengthening the site’s role within the company’s manufacturing network. The COE was completed in 16 months with zero safety incidents, an operational milestone for a greenfield manufacturing project of this scale.

The new machining centre was inaugurated in the presence of global leadership, India region leadership, and supplier partners, reflecting its strategic relevance to the company’s long-term manufacturing plans. The facility is positioned to deliver safe, sustainable, and smart manufacturing, aligned with evolving customer requirements and long-term competitiveness.

The inauguration was attended by Brett Merritt, President, Engine Business at Cummins Inc., and Shveta Arya, Managing Director, Cummins India. Other senior leaders present included Bonnie Fetch, Executive Vice President and President – Global Operations at Cummins Inc. The presence of leaders overseeing engine strategy and global operations underscored the facility’s integration into Cummins’ worldwide manufacturing network rather than a purely domestic role.

As part of the facility’s development, supplier partners contributed specialised manufacturing systems to support advanced engine production requirements. Ecoclean supplied multiple parts cleaning and pre-washing systems for cylinder blocks, cylinder heads, and related components, supporting cleanliness and quality standards required for precision machining. Cummins India formally recognised supplier partners during the inauguration, highlighting their role in project execution and delivery.

The greenfield facility was delivered within a 16-month execution timeline and recorded zero safety incidents during construction and commissioning. The delivery schedule reflects coordination across cross-functional project teams, supplier partners, and operational leadership, enabling rapid capacity creation while maintaining safety standards. The facility is intended to support manufacturing requirements across multiple markets while strengthening operational resilience and supply chain flexibility.

Designed to serve customers in India and overseas, the COE is structured to accommodate future manufacturing needs and capacity requirements. The facility forms part of Cummins’ broader efforts to align manufacturing operations with long-term growth objectives while maintaining operational efficiency and consistency across regions.

Alongside investments in modern machining infrastructure, the facility highlights a focus on workforce capability and collaboration. Employees and supplier partners played a central role in establishing the operation and are expected to remain integral to its ongoing performance and development.

Cummins has been present in India for more than 60 years, with manufacturing, engineering, and support operations across several locations.
