Motherson Electronic Components Private Limited (MECPL), a wholly owned subsidiary of Samvardhana Motherson International Limited, has secured government incentives under the Electronics Components Manufacturing Scheme (ECMS) for manufacturing enclosures for the consumer electronics industry in India. The incentives apply to investments planned over a six-year period from financial year 2025–26 to financial year 2030–31 and are linked to capacity creation at a facility in Kanchipuram, Tamil Nadu.
According to a press release issued by the company on 5 January 2026, the subsidiary has been approved as a beneficiary under the ECMS administered by the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology. The scheme is aimed at strengthening domestic electronics manufacturing by supporting investments in selected component segments.
The company said the incentives are expected to support a cumulative investment of approximately INR 19.0 billion over the six-year period. MECPL is planning to use the incentives to expand manufacturing capacity for enclosures used in consumer electronics applications. The project is expected to generate more than 5,000 employment opportunities during the course of the incentive period, with hiring linked to phased capacity additions at the Kanchipuram plant.
The inclusion of MECPL under the ECMS follows recent government approvals for electronics component manufacturing projects intended to reduce import dependence and expand local value addition. The incentives are structured to be disbursed over multiple years, subject to meeting investment and production milestones specified under the scheme.
The company said the ECMS approval aligns with its broader strategy to diversify beyond automotive components and scale operations in non-automotive segments such as consumer electronics. The press release noted that the group is positioning itself to support a wider domestic supply chain for electronics manufacturing through local production of critical components.
Samvardhana Motherson International Limited operates manufacturing and engineering facilities across multiple sectors, including automotive, aerospace, and consumer electronics. The group has expanded its presence in electronics in recent years through investments in component manufacturing and assembly operations in India.
Samvardhana Motherson International Limited was established in 1986 and is listed on the BSE and National Stock Exchange of India. The company operates more than 425 facilities across 44 countries and supplies products and solutions to a global customer base spanning automotive and non-automotive industries.
