Hisense on Tuesday inaugurated its first manufacturing facility in India at Sri City in Tirupati district, Andhra Pradesh, marking the start of local production of air conditioners. Commercial production at the plant is scheduled to begin in February 2026 and is expected to support the company’s localisation and expansion plans in the Indian consumer durables market.

The facility has been commissioned through Epack Manufacturing Technologies Private Limited (EMTPL), a wholly owned subsidiary of Epack Durable Limited, under the Hisense–Epack Durable joint venture. The unit is located within Epack Durable’s industrial park at Sri City and spans 10 acres, with an investment of over USD 30 million.

The new plant is positioned alongside Epack Durable’s existing original design manufacturing (ODM) facility at the site. Hisense said the development forms part of its India growth roadmap and aligns with the Government of India’s Make in India initiative. The facility is intended to strengthen supply chain resilience and improve cost competitiveness as demand for consumer durables grows in the domestic market.

In its initial phase, the plant will manufacture air conditioners. Subsequent phases are planned to expand production to washing machines, including front load, top load and semi-automatic models, followed by kitchen and other domestic appliances. The phased expansion is aimed at broadening the company’s local manufacturing footprint across multiple product categories.

The facility currently employs around 500 people and is expected to create nearly 1,500 jobs over the next 12 to 24 months. Hisense India Chief Executive Officer Pankaj Rana said the Sri City plant would provide tighter control over quality, costs and supply chains while enabling product customisation for Indian consumers. Ajay Singhania of Epack Durable stated that the partnership combines Hisense’s technology capabilities with India-based manufacturing expertise.

Hisense is a manufacturer of consumer electronics and home appliances, and the Sri City facility represents its first manufacturing operation in India.
