NIBE Limited has secured a manufacturing contract from Elbit Systems, an Israeli defence technology company, to produce components for the 70mm Guided Advanced Tactical Rocket (GATR). The air-to-surface rocket features semi-active laser guidance, a strike range of up to 10 km, and the ability to engage moving targets at speeds of up to 100 kmph.

The GATR system is compatible with multiple attack helicopters, including the AH-64 Apache and HAL Rudra. It reportedly carries a 16 kg warhead capable of penetrating up to 200 mm of reinforced concrete. According to the company, the system is intended for tactical air operations and medium-strike missions.

NIBE Limited will manage the acquisition, localized production, and integration of GATR components for the Indian Armed Forces as well as international customers. The company stated that the collaboration aims to improve mission efficiency and operational safety, and that it supports the growth of domestic defence manufacturing.

According to NIBE, the agreement marks the first instance of domestic production of a rocket of this specification in India. The company described the contract as a milestone in expanding its export capabilities and contributing to the development of advanced defence systems in the country.
