BEML Limited has secured an order worth INR 18.88 billion from the Integral Coach Factory (ICF) to manufacture, supply, test and commission 600 Linke-Hofmann-Busch (LHB) passenger coaches. The contract covers a mix of day and sleeper variants and is scheduled to be completed within 15 months.

According to the company, the coaches will include modular interiors, bio-toilets with pressurised flushing systems, enhanced noise- and vibration-reduction technology, and a set of safety and passenger-convenience features such as CCTV surveillance, emergency alarm switches, mobile charging points, a 10-hour battery backup for lights and fans, and an independent emergency lighting system. BEML said the designs use a lightweight stainless-steel body, anti-telescopic construction, advanced suspension systems, and are compatible with End-On Generation (EOG) technology.

This order marks BEML’s first supply of LHB coaches to Indian Railways after about five years. The company added that its total order book is expected to approach around INR 200 billion.

BEML Limited is a government-owned engineering and manufacturing company that supplies products for defence, mining, construction and rail sectors and operates multiple manufacturing facilities with in-house R&D capabilities.
