Indraprastha Gas Limited (IGL), in partnership with Genesis Gas Solutions, has inaugurated a smart gas meter manufacturing facility at the World Trade Centre, Nauroji Nagar, New Delhi. The plant was launched in September 2025 and is designed to produce around one million smart and prepaid gas meters annually. Commercial production is scheduled to begin in October 2025.

The new meters will incorporate digital solutions for automated reading and billing. The plant will support the company’s ability to serve more than 3 million households, industries, and commercial entities with piped natural gas.

Indraprastha Gas Limited supplies natural gas across Delhi, Noida, Greater Noida, Ghaziabad, Gurugram, Rewari, Karnal, Muzaffarnagar, Shamli and other regions. The company operates city gas distribution networks, including CNG stations and piped natural gas infrastructure, serving residential, commercial, and industrial customers.

Indraprastha Gas Limited (IGL) operates 956 CNG stations, accounting for approximately 12 per cent of India’s total, and fuels around 2.2 million vehicles daily. The company also supplies piped natural gas to more than 3.07 million households, as well as thousands of industrial and commercial establishments. Piped natural gas connections have been extended to 250 villages in Delhi, reaching over 100,000 rural households. Daily natural gas supply from IGL averages about 9.3 MMSCMD (Million Metric Standard Cubic Meter per Day).

The company has implemented technologies such as SAP-ERP, GIS, analytics, e-billing, prepaid self-billing apps, chatbots, and automated meter reading systems to improve operational efficiency. The new smart gas meter manufacturing facility supports domestic production capabilities and contributes to India’s “Make in India” objectives in the gas distribution sector.

IGL continues to expand its piped natural gas and CNG infrastructure while integrating renewable energy sources. The company has invested in electric vehicle charging stations, with 40 points currently operational and plans for further expansion.
