Schneider Electric India Private Limited plans to expand its manufacturing operations in Tamil Nadu through capacity additions at existing facilities in Chennai and Coimbatore and the establishment of a new greenfield plant in Hosur. The investment of INR 7.18 billion is expected to create 663 direct jobs and add manufacturing capacity for electrical equipment and energy management solutions in the state.

The investment plan was formalised through a memorandum of understanding signed on Wednesday between the Government of Tamil Nadu and the Schneider Electric Group. The agreement covers expansion at current smart manufacturing units and the development of a new facility focused on data centre-related infrastructure.

Under the agreement, Schneider Electric India Private Limited will scale up production capacity at its manufacturing units in Chennai and Coimbatore. These facilities are part of the company’s smart manufacturing network and support the production of electrical distribution, automation, and energy management products for domestic and export markets.

In addition, Schneider Electric IT Business India Private Limited will set up a new manufacturing facility in Hosur. The proposed plant will focus on prefabricated solutions and cooling systems, which are used in data centres and digital infrastructure projects. The Hosur unit is planned on a 500,000 square foot plot at Horizon Industrial Park.

The Hosur facility is designed to incorporate rooftop solar power generation, energy-efficient heating, ventilation, and air-conditioning systems, and electric vehicle charging infrastructure. The company stated that these features are intended to align the new plant with its sustainability and energy efficiency objectives.

The memorandum of understanding signing was attended by senior officials from the Tamil Nadu government, including representatives from the Industries, Investment Promotion and Commerce Department, as well as senior executives from Schneider Electric. The agreement reflects continued investment by multinational manufacturers in Tamil Nadu’s industrial corridors, particularly in electronics, electrical equipment, and advanced manufacturing.

Schneider Electric India Private Limited is the Indian subsidiary of Schneider Electric Group, which operates in the energy management and automation sector. The group has manufacturing, research, and commercial operations across multiple locations in India, serving industrial, infrastructure, building, and data centre customers.
