SCHÜTZ Container Systems India Private Limited has inaugurated its first manufacturing facility in India at Dahej in Gujarat, marking the company’s formal entry into local production of industrial transport packaging. The new site is intended to supply intermediate bulk containers (IBCs) and plastic drums to customers across the Indian market, reducing dependence on imports and shortening delivery lead times.

From the Dahej site, SCHÜTZ will manufacture intermediate bulk containers, including the ECOBULK MX series with a nominal capacity of 1,000 litres, as well as plastic tight-head drums. The product portfolio also includes polyethylene drums based on the F1 global standard and the F2 model developed for the Indian market, which incorporates an additional bottom grip ring for manual handling. In addition, the plant will produce components such as screw caps, outlet nozzles and gaskets.

The new facility shortens transport routes within India, which is expected to reduce associated carbon dioxide emissions and improve supply security for domestic customers. The site has also been designed with provisions for future expansion and includes the technical foundation for certification under the Food Safety System Certification 22000 (FSSC 22000) standard, as well as planned FOODCERT and CLEANCERT production.

The first phase of SCHÜTZ’s India expansion involved an investment of more than EUR 30 million. As part of its operating model, the company will also offer circular economy services in India, including the SCHÜTZ Ticket Service for the collection, reconditioning and recycling of used industrial containers.

The facility was inaugurated in the Dahej II Industrial Estate. The event was attended by Group CEO Roland Strassburger, Board Member Holger Gelhard, Commercial Coordinator APAC Michael Haferstock, Operations Manager APAC Carsten Fein, and the management team of SCHÜTZ Container Systems India. Customers and business partners participated in guided plant tours and were briefed on the company’s production processes.

General Manager Yogesh Shukla opened the event, while Strassburger highlighted the growth of the Indian economy and the increasing demand for high-quality industrial packaging solutions. The company stated that the Dahej plant will serve customers in the chemical, pharmaceutical and food sectors, which were previously supplied from SCHÜTZ’s operations in Malaysia.

SCHÜTZ Container Systems India is the Indian subsidiary of Germany-based SCHÜTZ GmbH & Co. KGaA. The group employs more than 7,000 people worldwide and operates 55 production and service locations across all continents, with its headquarters and central engineering operations based in Selters, Westerwald.
