Anurag Mehrotra, Vice President of International Business and Strategy at Tata Motors’ Commercial Vehicles division, has resigned from his position. Sources indicate that he is set to join JSW MG Motor as Chief Executive Officer in February 2024.
Mehrotra joined Tata Motors in October 2021 after serving as Managing Director of Ford India. At Tata Motors, he was responsible for expanding the company’s commercial vehicle operations in international markets, including Egypt and Thailand, as part of a broader strategy to reduce reliance on domestic market cycles. He also oversaw the launch of flagship products, such as Tata Prima and Tata Ultra.
A Tata Motors spokesperson confirmed Mehrotra’s departure, though JSW MG Motor has not responded to inquiries regarding his potential appointment.
Mehrotra has over two decades of experience in the automotive sector. During his tenure at Ford India, he implemented the Emerging Market Operating Model (EMOM), which cut structural costs by 37%. This approach, coupled with a focus on exports, helped the company grow its revenue from ₹19,000 crore in FY17 to over ₹24,000 crore in FY19. Ford India also transitioned from a ₹521 crore loss in FY17 to a ₹500 crore profit in FY18.
Despite these achievements, Ford India ceased domestic car production in 2021, and Mehrotra departed following the cancellation of a proposed joint venture between Ford and Mahindra & Mahindra.
At JSW MG Motor, Mehrotra is expected to play a key role in the company’s strategy to significantly increase vehicle production volumes over the next three to five years. The company is reportedly undergoing management restructuring across various departments, including sales, marketing, HR, and administration.
This development marks a significant leadership shift for both Tata Motors and JSW MG Motor as they navigate strategic priorities in competitive markets.
