Samvardhana Motherson International Limited (SMIL) has announced that its subsidiary, Samvardhana Motherson Automotive Systems Group B.V. (SMRP B.V.), will invest between USD 5 million and USD 7 million in REE Automotive Ltd.
According to a regulatory filing, the investment is aimed at maintaining SMRP B.V.’s existing ownership percentage in REE Automotive as the latter raises additional capital to support the commercialization of its order book. SMRP B.V. currently holds 18.6% of REE Automotive’s ordinary share capital, which translates to 11% on a fully diluted basis.
SMIL is a manufacturer of automotive components, producing wiring harnesses, mirrors, door trims, lighting systems, and polymer parts. The company operates in approximately 40 countries.
REE Automotive, based in Israel, develops modular platforms for electric vehicles. Its REEcorner technology integrates key vehicle components such as steering, braking, suspension, and powertrain into the wheel arches. The company’s REEboard platform provides a scalable foundation for different vehicle configurations, including commercial delivery vans and autonomous shuttles.
According to REE Automotive, its “by-wire” system for steering, braking, and drive functions is designed to enhance vehicle efficiency and maneuverability. The company’s technology is compatible with battery-electric and fuel-cell electric powertrains.
The investment by SMRP B.V. follows a prior transaction in September 2024, which established its current ownership stake in REE Automotive.
