Foxconn has acquired machinery worth USD 32.26 million to support Apple product manufacturing in India, according to a regulatory filing by its subsidiary, Foxconn Hon Hai Technology India Mega Development.

The procurement comes amid reported delays in equipment shipments from China and restrictions on work rotations for Chinese employees at Foxconn’s Indian facilities. The latest purchase marks the first significant machinery import for iPhone production in over six months. In October 2024, Foxconn had acquired specialized equipment worth USD 31.8 million to begin manufacturing Apple’s iPhone 16 Pro series at its Tamil Nadu facility.

The Tamil Nadu plant, which employs approximately 50,000 workers, has faced operational challenges due to supply chain restrictions reportedly imposed by China. However, Foxconn is continuing to expand its Indian operations, with plans to double iPhone production in the country to 25-30 million units in 2025, up from around 12 million units in the previous year.

In addition to its Sriperumbudur facility, Foxconn has initiated trial production at its upcoming manufacturing plant in Bengaluru. The new facility, with an estimated investment of INR 250 billion, is expected to assemble 20 million smartphones annually.

Beyond iPhones, Apple is also expanding its manufacturing presence in India. According to a PTI report, Apple will begin producing AirPods for export at Foxconn’s Hyderabad facility starting in April 2025.
