Tata Advanced Systems Limited (TASL) has acquired 740,000 square feet of land in Karnataka’s Vemgal Industrial Area to set up an aircraft manufacturing facility. The transaction, valued at INR 293.4 million, was registered with the Karnataka Industrial Areas Development Board (KIADB) on February 24, 2025.
The land, located along the Kolar-Chikkaballapur Road (SH-96), is approximately 10 kilometres from the Narasapura and Jakkasandra industrial zones. TASL has entered into a lease-cum-sale agreement with KIADB for a period of ten years. The annual rent under the agreement is INR 17,011, with additional annual maintenance charges of INR 255,000. A stamp duty of INR 15 million was paid as part of the registration.
The company plans to use the site for an aircraft assembly line and related maintenance, repair, and overhaul (MRO) activities. No further details regarding production timelines or capacity have been disclosed as of now.
This land acquisition adds to TASL’s broader manufacturing footprint, which includes an ongoing facility setup in Vadodara, Gujarat, for the assembly of Airbus C-295 military transport aircraft. That project is being executed in collaboration with Airbus Spain, with deliveries from the Indian facility expected by 2026.
In addition to the Karnataka land acquisition, TASL is also working on establishing a defence aircraft MRO facility in Bengaluru, which is intended to support Hercules and Super Hercules fleets under a partnership with Lockheed Martin.
