Tata Elxsi has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Synopsys to jointly offer automotive virtualization solutions aimed at supporting software-defined vehicle development. The collaboration is focused on delivering integrated and pre-verified solutions that enable the design and deployment of virtual electronic control units (vECUs), used for early-stage software validation and reducing development timelines.
The partnership combines Tata Elxsi’s engineering expertise in embedded systems with Synopsys’ virtualization tools, which are currently used by more than 50 automotive original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) and Tier 1 suppliers. The joint solutions aim to streamline software development, reduce reliance on physical prototypes, and support multiple vehicle domains including powertrain, chassis, body control, gateway, and central compute.
Tata Elxsi and Synopsys are already working together on several global projects involving software bring-up, board support package (BSP) integration, and vECU deployment. The companies also plan to explore further opportunities in the use of electronics digital twins for multi-ECU and application-specific systems.
“Our partnership with Synopsys reflects a future-forward response to how vehicle development is evolving. As OEMs move away from traditional workflows, there is growing demand for engineering services that are tightly integrated with virtualization tools. This strategic collaboration enables us to jointly address that shift with focus, flexibility, and domain depth,” said Sundar Ganapathi, Chief Technology Officer of Automotive, Tata Elxsi.
“The automotive industry’s transformation to software-defined vehicles requires advanced virtualization capabilities from silicon to systems. Our leadership enabling automotive electronics digital twins, combined with Tata Elxsi’s engineering scale and practical experience operationalising automotive system design, will simplify the adoption of virtual ECUs and thereby accelerate software development and testing to improve quality and time to market,” said Marc Serughetti, Vice President, Synopsys Product Management & Markets Group.
Tata Elxsi provides design and technology services across sectors including automotive, broadcast, communications, healthcare, and transportation. The company supports clients in R&D, design, and product engineering, and employs more than 13,000 engineers and specialists globally.
