Barry Callebaut, a manufacturer of chocolate and cocoa products, has inaugurated a new manufacturing facility in Neemrana, Rajasthan—its third in India. Located in the Ghiloth industrial area, approximately 120 kilometres from Delhi, the greenfield plant spans 20,000 square metres and includes integrated warehousing and advanced production lines for chocolate and compound in multiple formats.

With this addition, India has become Barry Callebaut’s largest chocolate-producing market in the Asia Pacific, Middle East, and Africa (AMEA) region. The company stated that the Neemrana factory enhances its local manufacturing capabilities and strengthens proximity to customers, especially in north-central India.

Over the past five years, Barry Callebaut has invested more than INR 5 billion (CHF 50 million) in India. “This new factory enables us to meet that demand locally, foster innovation, and deepen our partnerships with local food manufacturers and artisans. Just as importantly, its location in Neemrana allows us to get significantly closer to our customers, particularly those based in the north-central part of this vast country, improving speed to market and customer intimacy,” said Dhruva Jyoti Sanyal, Managing Director, India & Southwest Asia.

India’s chocolate market is experiencing strong growth, with annual per capita consumption still under 200 grams. The company noted that the rising demand for premium and high-quality chocolate products is creating new opportunities for innovation and business expansion.

Barry Callebaut has operated in India for over 18 years, with two existing manufacturing sites in Baramati and a CHOCOLATE ACADEMY Center in Mumbai that supports training and innovation. The new Neemrana facility complements these operations as a northern hub. The company also recently opened a Global Business Services Hub in Hyderabad and currently employs more than 400 people in India.

“India is the fastest-growing major economy in the world. As a global leader in chocolate and cocoa, Barry Callebaut is proud to play a role in supporting this growth. With our newest facility in India, we are reinforcing our leadership position and deepening our commitment to being the trusted partner to India’s food industry, and to customers across the wider AMEA region,” said Vamsi Mohan Thati, President, AMEA.

Barry Callebaut Group, headquartered in Zurich, reported annual sales of approximately CHF 10.4 billion in fiscal year 2023/24. The group operates more than 60 production facilities worldwide and employs over 13,000 people. It serves industrial manufacturers as well as artisanal and professional users through brands such as Callebaut, Cacao Barry, Carma, and Mona Lisa.
