Shimadzu Corporation, a manufacturer of scientific instruments and medical equipment, is establishing a new manufacturing facility in Bengaluru, Karnataka, as part of its plan to expand local production capabilities in India. The plant, operated by the newly formed subsidiary Shimadzu Manufacturing India Private Limited (SMI), is scheduled to begin operations in the spring of 2027. The company is aiming to generate approximately JPY 47.0 billion in India sales by FY2035, about 2.6 times its FY2023 level.
SMI is being set up by the end of March 2025 and will manufacture analytical and measuring instruments, including liquid chromatographs (LC), gas chromatographs (GC), UV-VIS spectrophotometers (UV), LC-MS, and GC-MS systems. The facility will cover a 40,000-square-metre site, with a 5,500-square-metre building and a workforce of 50 employees in its first year. Shimadzu is also considering adding production lines for medical systems and industrial machinery in the future.
The new plant is intended to strengthen Shimadzu’s supply chain for the Indian market, which is currently served by exports from Japan and Malaysia. The company states that the facility will also allow it to respond to domestic manufacturing incentives in India.
In addition to manufacturing expansion, Shimadzu is restructuring its India operations by merging its sales subsidiaries for analytical instruments and medical systems. The new entity, Shimadzu India Private Limited (SIP), is expected to be established by the summer of 2025. It will be a wholly owned subsidiary of Shimadzu (Asia Pacific) Pte. Ltd., based in Singapore.
SIP will manage sales and service of analytical instruments, medical systems, and industrial machinery across India. Shimadzu says the merger is intended to improve coordination with customers using both medical and scientific systems and to support business development in clinical fields.
Shimadzu inaugurated its new corporate headquarters in Mumbai on June 17, 2025. The new facility brings together multiple business divisions and includes the Shimadzu Expert Centre, which focuses on training and collaboration. “This isn’t just a structure of glass and concrete — it is a living space built on trust, ambition, and collaboration. It is our commitment to India, and our belief in its potential,” said Manabu Sakamoto, Managing Director of Shimadzu India.
Shimadzu Corporation, headquartered in Kyoto, Japan, develops analytical and medical instruments, precision machinery, and industrial equipment. Established in 1875, the company operates in over 100 countries. Shimadzu Analytical (India) Pvt. Ltd. handles sales, service, and application support for Shimadzu products across India.
