Toyo Ink India Pvt. Ltd., a member of Japan’s artience Group, plans to expand liquid ink production capacity at its Gujarat plant to support rising demand from the domestic packaging sector. The new facility is scheduled to begin operations in 2028 and will increase total output by approximately one-and-a-half times.

The expansion comes as India’s packaging market continues to grow, supported by population growth, an expanding middle class and changing consumption patterns. These trends have contributed to higher demand for liquid packaging inks used across food, beverages and fast-moving consumer goods industries.

“The decision to expand production capacity comes at a time when our Gujarat plant is nearing full capacity amid India’s surging demand,” said Shekhar Barua, head of the liquid ink and plastic colourant business units at Toyo Ink India. He said the enlarged facility will also serve neighbouring countries and support the company’s long-term plans to increase the share of sustainable products in its portfolio.

According to the company’s FY2025 results briefing, demand from local converters in India continued to rise, contributing to stable performance in the packaging materials segment. To support this growth, the company used workers from other sites to reinforce operations at its India facilities. The company also reported that its market share in India has been increasing due to continued sales expansion in liquid inks.

Toyo Ink India began its liquid ink operations in 2011 as an import-based business. Local manufacturing started in 2013 with the Delhi plant, followed by the commissioning of the Gujarat plant in 2021. Both capacity expansion and a broader sustainability-focused product range are intended to strengthen the company’s competitive position in India’s growth markets.

Toyo Ink India was established in 2007 in Delhi as a subsidiary of the artience Group. It supplies offset, UV-curable, flexographic and gravure inks, along with lamination adhesives, inkjet inks, polyurethane resins and colour masterbatches for industrial customers.
