Tau Power Electronics Private Limited, a Pune-based manufacturer of precision emission-control sensors, has inaugurated a new production facility in Hinjewadi, Pune and commenced operations of its first nitrogen oxide (NOx) sensor manufacturing line. The development marks the company’s entry into commercial-scale production of components used in automotive and industrial emission systems.

Tau Power’s Pune site incorporates cleanroom assembly and in-house design functions to support manufacturing of additional products, including differential pressure (Delta P) sensors and urea quality sensors used in selective catalytic reduction systems.

According to the company, the new unit enables end-to-end production capability for NOx sensors, which monitor nitrogen oxide levels in diesel engine exhaust systems to support compliance with Bharat Stage VI and Euro VI emission norms. The inauguration was attended by partners and industry guests, and the company stated that the expansion is intended to strengthen the domestic supply chain for emission-control components.

“Tau Power is working to enable cleaner engines, smarter systems, and a more sustainable future. We’re here to be your partner for your complete emission-compliant engine portfolio that’s built in India, ready for the world.,” stated Ashwath Ram, Founder of Tau Power Electronics.

Ashwath Ram previously served as Managing Director of the Cummins Group in India and later as Vice President, Global Supply Chain at Cummins Inc. His father, Ram V Ramachandran also served as the Managing Director of Cummins from 1986 to 1990.

The company is pursuing a structured, multi-phase manufacturing strategy that includes partnerships with international technology providers for production lines and processes, followed by localisation of most components other than certain ceramic elements. Tau Power said it ultimately aims to build full in-house capability for designing and modifying sensors and controllers to serve both Indian and global original equipment manufacturers (OEMs).

Tau Power Electronics is expanding its product roadmap beyond emission sensors to include vehicle and industrial controllers for applications in intelligent mobility systems. Its stated objective is to assemble a complete emission-compliant portfolio that reduces dependence on imported components and shortens lead times for OEMs.

Tau Power Electronics Private Limited, incorporated on 15 September 2023, manufactures NOx, Delta P and urea quality sensors for automotive and industrial applications. The company operates from Pune and focuses on cleanroom production, calibration, validation and sensor electronics for BS-VI and Euro VI platforms.
