Hi-Tech Pipes Limited commenced commercial production at its greenfield manufacturing facility in Kathua, Jammu, on 05 January 2026, expanding its manufacturing footprint in northern India. The new unit has an installed capacity of 80,000 tonnes per annum and is designed to produce electric resistance welded (ERW) steel pipes along with coated and other value-added steel products, the company said.
According to a press release issued by Hi-Tech Pipes Limited, the Kathua facility has been developed with modern manufacturing infrastructure, higher levels of automation, and quality-control systems to meet customer specifications and evolving industry standards. With the commissioning of this plant, the company’s consolidated installed manufacturing capacity has increased to about 930,000 tonnes per annum, bringing it closer to the milestone of 1 million tonnes.
The Kathua unit is strategically located to enable efficient and cost-effective supply to customers across Jammu and Kashmir, Punjab, and Himachal Pradesh. The company said the facility is positioned to cater to demand from end-use sectors such as infrastructure development, construction, water distribution, fabrication, industrial projects, and engineering applications.
The commissioning aligns with the company’s strategy to increase the share of value-added products in its overall sales mix. Hi-Tech Pipes stated that a greater focus on coated and specialised steel products is expected to support an improved product mix, higher realisations, and better earnings before interest, tax, depreciation, and amortisation per tonne over the medium to long term. The newly added capacity is expected to begin contributing meaningfully from the middle of the fourth quarter of financial year 2025–26 onwards.
“The commencement of commercial production at our Kathua, Jammu facility marks a significant milestone in Hi-Tech Pipes’ growth journey,” said Ajay Kumar Bansal, Chairman and Managing Director, Hi-Tech Pipes Limited. “This strategically located greenfield plant not only strengthens our presence in the northern region but also brings us very close to the landmark of 1 million tonnes of installed capacity,” he said.
He added, “The Kathua unit is focused on value-added and coated products, which aligns strongly with our long-term objective of improving margins, enhancing our product portfolio, and supporting infrastructure-led development across emerging and underserved regions.”
The investment in the Kathua facility amounts to INR 510 million and has been funded through a combination of debt and internal accruals, the company disclosed. Hi-Tech Pipes said the expansion supports its broader plan to build a scalable and efficient manufacturing platform capable of meeting rising demand from infrastructure, construction, engineering, and industrial sectors.
