Alstom has expanded its rail manufacturing and engineering operations in India, with six manufacturing facilities and five engineering centres employing 12,500 people. The company has delivered nearly 500 WAG-12B electric locomotives as part of a EUR 3.5-billion contract with Indian Railways, with over 85 per cent of components sourced locally.
The company’s India operations account for more than 33 per cent of its global engineering activities. Its manufacturing includes Namo Bharat trains, WAG-12B locomotives, and metro solutions, supporting India’s freight and passenger transport modernisation.
Alstom also provides infrastructure solutions such as electrification, signalling, and telecommunication systems for projects like the Eastern Dedicated Freight Corridor. In Bengaluru, its Digital Experience Centre develops signalling technologies.
Focusing on sustainability, Alstom has implemented eco-design principles, with a 98 per cent waste recovery rate and 96 per cent recyclable metro trains, such as those for Mumbai Metro Line 3.
