Southern Alloy Foundries Private Limited, a manufacturer of iron castings, has inaugurated a new manufacturing facility in Tamil Nadu. The event marked an expansion of the company’s production infrastructure, aimed at supporting increased operational capacity and technology upgrades.
According to the company, the new greenfield facility has been designed to incorporate advanced technology and enable agile operations. Southern Alloy Foundries manufactures cast components and provides industrial foundry solutions. The company serves clients across various sectors and has a presence in domestic and international markets.
The inauguration ceremony was attended by the Minister for Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises of Tamil Nadu and the Managing Director of Caterpillar India Private Limited. The company stated that the facility would enhance its ability to meet market demands through updated processes and improved efficiency.
The company began operations in 1959 with the production of grey iron castings using a cupola furnace. It later entered into a technical collaboration with International Mond Nickel Company of the UK to manufacture ductile iron castings, which were then a patented product. Southern Alloy Foundries imported its first electric induction melting furnace from Sweden, becoming one of the early adopters of this technology in India.
The company currently specializes in producing all grades of ductile iron castings, focusing on low-volume, heavy-weight, high-quality components. Approximately 90% of its output is radiographic-quality castings. Southern Alloy Foundries has continued to adopt new technologies and developments in the foundry sector over the decades, serving clients across various sectors in domestic and international markets.
