LG Corporation has confirmed an investment of INR 10 billion to establish a Global Research and Development (R&D) Centre in NOIDA, Uttar Pradesh. A meeting was held on 4 November 2025 between a high-level LG delegation and the Chief Executive Officer of the NOIDA Authority to finalise project details and timelines.
The new R&D facility will be developed on a 27,129-square-metre plot in NOIDA Phase-II and is expected to generate around 500 direct jobs. The project aims to enhance LG’s innovation capabilities and reinforce NOIDA’s position as a growing hub for high-technology research and product development. The NOIDA Authority has assured administrative and logistical support for the timely execution of the project.
In a related development, LG Electronics has supplied production equipment for Apple’s iPhone assembly in India for the first time, marking a new phase in its cooperation with Apple beyond component supply. According to a report in The Economic Times, LG’s Production Technology Institute provided automated manufacturing equipment for iPhone 17 production lines operated by Foxconn, Tata Electronics, and Pegatron in India.
The institute, which designs and builds manufacturing systems for LG Electronics, has expanded into smart factory and semiconductor equipment. LG’s supply of iPhone production machinery is viewed as a strategic move aligned with Apple’s growing localisation of manufacturing in India. Apple began Indian iPhone production in 2017 and now manufactures the entire iPhone 16 series domestically.
The adoption of LG’s production equipment is a significant step in stabilising Apple’s initial production phase in India and could lead to further orders as output volumes increase. LG Electronics is also reportedly evaluating the relocation of certain production facilities from South Korea, China, and Vietnam to India as part of its manufacturing diversification strategy. These include manufacturing and production equipment for electronic products, displays and modules. LG Innotek and LG Display could also consider investing in production facilities in India.
LG Corporation, headquartered in Seoul, South Korea, operates globally across electronics, chemicals, and telecommunications. LG Electronics holds a leading share in India’s home appliance market and continues to expand its manufacturing and R&D footprint in the country.
