Bonfiglioli Transmissions has laid the foundation for a new industry and automation facility in Cheyyar, Tamil Nadu, and inaugurated its Technology and Innovation Hub in Chennai. The Cheyyar facility, covering 25 acres, is expected to start operations in 2025 and will create 150-200 jobs. This plant will focus on meeting the rising domestic demand for heavy-duty industrial gearboxes.

The investment in Cheyyar builds on Bonfiglioli’s earlier expansion in Pune, which increased its capacity to produce light and medium-duty industrial gearboxes. Bonfiglioli’s Indian operations have been a part of its broader strategy to strengthen its presence in the region, while supporting local manufacturing initiatives.

The newly opened Bonfiglioli Technology Space in Chennai will house 180 engineers and focus on research, development, and technical support. The center will also include laboratories for testing under simulated field conditions, aiming to develop advanced industrial solutions.

Sonia Bonfiglioli, Chairwoman of Bonfiglioli S.p.A., mentioned that the company aims to achieve a turnover of Rs 19 billion by the end of the year. She noted that the expansion is expected to boost employment and strengthen the company’s market position in India.

Kennady V. Kaippally, Country Manager of Bonfiglioli India, highlighted that these developments will help meet local demand and support industrial growth in the country.

This latest move underscores Bonfiglioli’s ongoing commitment to expanding its manufacturing and innovation capacities in India.
