Calderys has commissioned the basic monolithics production line at its new CAPES facility in Bhuinpur, Khordha district, Odisha, marking the second line at the site to enter commercial operation. The development expands the plant’s ability to supply both acidic and basic monolithics for customers in India and the wider Asia-Pacific region. The commissioning follows the start of the acidic monolithics line earlier in 2025.
“The launch of our second line is a major step in our journey to expand in India’s dynamic industrial market,” said Michel Cornelissen, President and CEO of Calderys. “India’s refractory market is projected to grow significantly in the coming year, driven by rapid industrialisation and infrastructure expansion,” said Ish Mohan Garg, Senior Vice President, Asia Pacific.
According to a press release issued by Calderys, the addition of basic monolithics strengthens its India-based portfolio for process industries and supports increasing demand from the domestic iron and steel sectors. The company also stated that the CAPES (Calderys Plant in East and South India) facility forms a central component of its long-term expansion strategy in the region.
According to the company, the facility will become the world’s largest single-site production complex for refractories and steel casting fluxes once fully completed. Further expansion is underway, with acidic and basic brick lines planned as the next phase of development. Additional production units are under construction and scheduled to begin operations in 2026, with full-scale activity across the site targeted for the second half of 2026.
Spanning 45 acres, the CAPES site is designed to house six production lines for acidic and basic monolithics and bricks, as well as steel casting fluxes and tap-hole clays. The facility is expected to support India’s steel, cement, aluminium, petrochemical, and mining industries by increasing domestic manufacturing capacity and reducing reliance on imported refractory products.
A leadership visit on 19 November 2025 marked recent progress at the site, with a ceremony to unveil foundation stones for the administrative building, quality and process control facilities, and the two commissioned monolithics lines. The delegation reviewed construction activity and participated in a tree plantation initiative conducted as part of the project’s sustainability measures.
Located near industrial hubs and port infrastructure, the Odisha facility is positioned to strengthen delivery timelines, technical support, and supply chain resilience for domestic customers while also serving export markets in Southeast Asia, East Asia, and the wider Asia-Pacific region. The plant incorporates energy-efficient systems, water conservation processes, and automated manufacturing technologies designed to meet global environmental and performance standards.
Calderys provides refractory solutions for the iron and steel, foundry, cement, non-ferrous metals, and other industrial sectors.
